4.SHAPE EXPERIMENTS 

The goal for this project was to experiment with shapes and construction. I was particularly inspired by the shape of wings and their structure, ranging from airplane- to bat-wing. Trials on the half-scale doll with paper shapes and sticks, helped me in the creation of my pattern and execution. 

         
     

     


     
  

For my coloured version, I used logwood and iron as a natural dye, due to it’s batlike colour and interesting texture. For my print I got inspired by the “patagium”, a bat’s wing membrane that is known to be self-healing from pathogens and cuts. I laser-engraved the structure of the veins on a block and blockprinted on my fabric.
