5.UNDERGROUND vienna

This project started with my interest in clothing and culture merging both together to create a meeting point for like-minded individuals. During the span of 4 years, I hosted 5 popup stores in various locations, selling in house printed blanks, accessoires and cut & sew garments.

Being heavily inspired by Viennese culture, spanning from the 19th century to present day and local skate culture, inspiring the youth to engage with the world of fashion. Bringing people together in a city with very little offering of events like these.

SURVEILANCE TEE The Augustinian church in the first district of Vienna is located between the Albertina and the Hofburg. Used as the church of the imperial court of the Habsburgs it stands for the close ties between state and church.
The surveillance cameras in place of the cross stand as critic of the increasing surveillance in current times. The crucifix was especially used in the medieval ages from state and church in order to keep their population under control. Rising  surveillance by states and private companies creates a new era for control over society and therefore draws parallels to the past.

KARLSPLATZ TEE an hommage to the architect Otto Wagner and his influence on daily Viennese culture. Print shows the old Underground station “Karlsplatz”, a meeting spot in Vienna known for its counter-culture and history. The green of the U4 line has engrained itself in the heads of Vienna’s inhabitants and is alongside the jugendstil elements an important contributor to the city’s heritage.

UNTERGRUND TEE untergrund is german and translates to subsoil, also used as a negative connotation towards the word underground. Untergrund is everything beneath the man-hole that decorates our streets. Mostly unnoticed and overlooked, they provide a portal to pathways below the city. What really happens down there in the shadow of darkness, remains partially a mystery.
